Here are two songs that, I’m proud to say, I didn’t know were covered by Rod Stewart until long after I had fallen in love with the originals.
This CH tune is about as sweet as it gets: beautiful harmonies by the band and fine steel guitar work courtesy of (you guessed it) Ry Cooder. Geez, that guy shows up everywhere and it’s almost always great.

So Well Remembered 
A story about Tom Waits told by the infamous J. Erskine:
Erskine was in NYC helping a friend tear up an old banquet hall to turn it into a recording studio. Erskine was hauling old busted tables and chairs out to a dumpster on the street. Tom Waits comes walking by in a pork pie hat and a black suit and says, “Hey, John, my man, hey, what’s this.” Erskine explains that he’s tearing up this old banquet hall and Tom Waits cocks his head and looks at the piece of this wooden table Erskine has. “Can I see that there?” Tom Waits asks. Erskine hands it over and Tom Waits takes this piece of metal out of his coat and starts beating on it. “That’s good, that’s good,” Tom Waits says and walks off with this piece of wood. Six months later “Swordfishtrombones” comes out.
