Matt Sweeney and Bonnie “Prince” Billy – “Only Someone Running” from Superwolf (2005)
What does it mean that, once upon a time, Glenn and I independently put this song on mixes for our girlfriends?
This was one of the best records (and best collaborations) of the last five years and so many overlooked it.

At the very least, it means that we (and our girlfriends) have good taste. This is such a great album.
I was about to post “Then The Letting Go” from the most recent B ‘P’ B disc, as this morning I taught Emily Dickinson’s poem from which the Oldsmobile got his title:
After great pain, a formal feeling comes –
The Nerves sit ceremonious, like Tombs –
The stiff Heart questions ‘was it He, that bore,’
And ‘Yesterday, or Centuries before’?
The Feet, mechanical, go round –
A Wooden way
Of Ground, or Air, or Ought –
Regardless grown,
A Quartz contentment, like a stone –
This is the Hour of Lead –
Remembered, if outlived,
As Freezing persons, recollect the Snow –
First – Chill – then Stupor – then the letting go –
